Blessings in the Valley

Recently, God spoke to my heart through Psalm 118:17-18: “I will not die, but live. And I will tell what the Lord has done. The Lord has taught me a hard lesson, but he did not let me die.”
That made me think of Psalm 23:4: “Even when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, (some translations say darkest valley), I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.”
Yes, I will tell of what the Lord has done and is doing! I am thankful for the lessons I learned through my difficult walk through the valley of cancer. In my deep trial and hardship God provided a valley of blessings. God improved my diagnoses, resolved my insurance issues, prevented surgeries, lessened side effects, and provided an incredible amount of prayer support from family and friends around the world — just to name a few blessings!
Perspective is so important. From the beginning of my fight with cancer, I chose to trust God and His sovereign plan for me. I believe what the Word of God says: His plans for me are for good (Jeremiah 29:11-13)! Admittedly, some days proved easier than others. But even when I had pain, nausea, or emotional overload because of the side effects, I looked every day to see and find the blessings before me.

What are you facing today? What does your valley look like? Is it scary, filled with threats from the enemy? Do you feel like you’re in a pit of despair? It may seem like you are in the valley of the shadow of death. But, remember, it is only a shadow. Shadows can’t hurt us — so don’t let them! The Lord can turn whatever you are facing into a valley of blessing if you will allow him. His plan is way better than any plan of our own. Trust me – I have tried to work out my own plan!

If you will look to the Lord and call upon Him, he will respond and draw close to you. Take a stand to trust Him and don’t look back! God will fight for you, but you have to trust Him. Do not be afraid. “Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today!” (Exodus 14:13)

Praying today that you will find blessings in the valley.
